i think that the watch idea is great and i think its sounds like that could work for me personally. i feel if i tried that i could do all the stuff i want to do whilst doing the times and because id be out id miss alot of the beeps or id be busy.
I used a similar technique and got to 52 days! but then i had a little relapse which turned slowly but surely smoking again everyday.....i regret giving in because that time i had no withdrawal AT ALL!!!! so i just thought the next time will be the same as the last but 3 years on and ill rattle like hell after 5 hours without a smoke.
anyway the technique i used was a total quit but id break the day down into hours and minutes. so when i got a crave, id look at the time and i say to myself, if you still want a smoke in 1 minute you can. and then the minute would pass and id say it again and keep doing that surprising how far you can go. you can also use hours or days, so you can say at night "if you feel like a smoke in the morning you can" and then in the morning "if you feel like at smoke at 5pm you can" it kinda powered me through those 52 days! and when its realy getting to you best to do smaller amounts like minutes.

That's my plan there. i figure once I break the cycle and I no longer depend on it. I can still blaze for special occasions... such as the release of Harold and Kumar 2 in theatres, or when gta4 drops

eh... i caved. What's worse than that... I scraped. I fear the weekend even more, that's when i 'do my thing'. My friend comes over and we play video games. No 2 things go better together for me. I won't even do one without the other. Weird...

I want to share a trick i used to quit cigarettes. Perhaps it will help you with this? To quit cigs (and it wasn't the nicotine) i very gradually decreased my smoking from 1 pack to a couple a day. Among many other things i did, i started to roll my own - so it wasn't easily accessible. I had to go through an ordeal to get a smoke. But the real trick was this:

I bought a watch (Casio calculator) which had a count down timer on it, it would go off when time reached 0 and restart automatically. At first i set it to go off once per hour. When it beeped, i could have a smoke (often i'd skip it cause i was busy). As days went on, I'd gradually increase the time - 1:30 hours, 1:45, 2, 2:15... so on.. adding less and less time as .. well, as time went on  At about 3 hours, the time increases were very small. It was also at about 3:15 increments that i forgot to smoke... Yes that's right. I didn't fight the urge, i didn't crave. I simply went for like 1-2 days and realized, "WAIT.. i haven't smoked in days!"

And here's the kicker, its been yeeears now. I can have a cigarette at a party, even a few, and not crave or want one (nowadays i don't even wanna smell em). And i feel very strongly about this: People often fail quitting because they struggle with it, its a push/pull, a fight. With the timing method i used, i did not fight at all. I didn't have to resist, push or pull, stress or anything. It simply rolled off me. It was a VERY gentle maneuver. I was still smoking but i also reduced it in a structured way.

One more thought on this - The biggest obstacle i had quitting was the idea that i could never smoke again! For if i did, I'd be a smoker again! That stopped me many times. But i found out that if i get it under control, i could still enjoy it once in a blue moon and not have any problems/relapses. Under control meaning i no longer had to fight the urge.

Perhaps timing it hourly may not be the way here.. but i may try to apply it on a larger scale.. say, start with (what's the longest i can go...) 24 hours? then 30? then 36, 40, 42,... you get the idea... small gradual increases...

Hope it makes sence. Hope this helps.
